Geocache Description:

The Summit Trail Loop.

This trail is part of the Spion Kop Hiking Trails. It is a 4.4 km difficult-rated trail for those looking for a workout. It has the most elevation gain to the peak of Spion Kop. You'll enjoy several cool forested areas and pass under a spectacular basalt cliff near the top.

Follow the red coloured diamond trail markers. There are many trails/roads criss-crossing the mountain. All hides were made on the well marked trails and can best be reached from these trails.

A special thanks to CacheHownds for help with cache containers and placement on the trails.

For access, take Pelmewash Parkway (old Hwy 97) to Ponderosa Road, then take Mission Road.
Parking is available at the end of Old Mission Road.

As always, practice safe caching.

  • Bring a pen.
  • Take sufficient water for the hike and mosquito repellant.
  • Be prepared for wildlife encounters and other hazards at all times.
  • Pack out everything you bring in, and exercise CITO whenever possible .
  • Please replace cache container to its proper place to keep the integrity of the hide.
  • Have fun. What a great way to enjoy the outdoors.

It's believed that the name Spion Kop was first used by Leslie Caesar, a veteran of the Boer War. Spion Kop - a Dutch term for "lookout hill" - is the name local residents have been using for the past 100 years. The Spion Kop Recreation Area is over 350 acres of designated park land. Much of the parkland is bordered by private property, so please respect it's boundaries.

Congratulations Nitronarc First to Find !!!!
