I’m a townie - I’ve always lived in cities and towns, and never had much to do with the ‘outdoors’. However, since I discovered Geocaching I have been delighted to uncover the pleasures of the countryside on my doorstep. This series is an attempt to share one of those discoveries with others, and is dedicated to zandi89z who introduced me to geocaching and with whom I have enjoyed several similar trails.
The caches themselves vary, I have tried to include various sizes and types, and different locations. The terrain varies, from open fields to woodland, from narrow paths to paved roads. There is even a view of the sea at one point!
The lanes around here are very narrow and don’t offer much in the way of parking. The waypoint I have given is for some nearby residential streets with parking available, but please give consideration to the residents when parking. It is about 500m from the parking to the first cache.
The map below gives an approximate idea of where the caches lie along the route, but you won’t find them from the map alone :)
There are several other caches around this area, shown as blue stars on my map, which you might wish to include in your walk if you haven’t logged them already.
Please:
Stick to the footpaths
Bring your own pen
Sign the logs
Re-seal and Replace caches carefully

There is a clue to be worked out at this first cache which will give you the location of a physical cache hidden part way round the circuit.
The given coordinates will take you to a yellow sign with a telephone number. To solve the clue you must do the following:
1)Add 1 to the first digit of the phone number, 2 to the second digit and so on up to +11 for the last digit.
2)Assign these new numbers the letters A to K
3)Use these new numbers to calculate the hidden coordinates N51.0W.X E001.0Y.Z where
W= G-D,
X= (E*F)+(B*C)+(D*C)-4,
Y= A+C,
Z= (F*G)+A
These new coordinates will lead you to the actual cache. Good luck!
You can check your answers for this puzzle on GeoChecker.com.
To move on to cache #2, go back down the lane 50m and turn left onto the marked footpath.
