Geocache Description:

The third in a series celebrating bus routes in Queens County.  This cache is a plastic tube.

The mighty Q36 bus starts in Jamaica at the 165th Street terminal and winds its way along Hillside Avenue, 212 Street, Jamaica Avenue and Jericho Turnpike to the community of  Floral Park.  This line was originally started by the Schenck Transportation Company in April 1926.   Starting in January 2013, the bus now turns north along Little Neck Parkway terminating at the Long Island Railroad Station in Little Neck.

Prior to 2013, the Little Neck Parkway segment of the route was known as the Q12A.  In December 1990, the city changed its route designation to the Q79 perhaps to avoid confusion with the nearby Q12.  On June 27, 2010, the MTA was in a budget crunch and discontinued service of the Q79.  After howls from the community, the MTA eventually re-launched the route as an extension of the Q36.  Service is only available weekdays from 5 am to 8 pm.  The line is operated by the Regional Operations of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (formerly the the New York City Transit Authority's Queens Division.)
