Reading, Berks County, PA
Berks County, erected in 1752, features a rich history and diverse culture. It is the ancestral home of Abraham Lincoln and the birthplace of Daniel Boone, the famous Kentucky pioneer. The county seat, Reading, was founded in 1748 by sons of William Penn, Richard and Thomas, along with Conrad Weiser. Other notable people who once resided in the Berks County area include Carl Furillo, Carl Spaatz, Michael Constantine, Betsy King, John Updike, Lenny Moore, and Taylor Swift.

Marker Text: Formed March 11, 1752 from parts of Chester, Lancaster and Philadelphia counties. Named for Berkshire, England. The county seat of Reading was made a borough in 1783 and a city in 1847. County's early iron works gave rise to Pennsylvania's iron industry.
