BEST Geo-Art: B14/14
Bethel Township, Berks County, PA
Pilger Ruh was the name given to this spring on the Tulpehocken Path by Count Nicholas Ludwig von Zinzendorf, the Moravian missionary, on his journey to the Indian towns of Shamokin and Wyoming in 1742. In his journal he named every mountain, valley and stream. He didn't care, or maybe he didn't realize, that they were already named.
Pilger Ruh means …
A. "Pilgrim's rest" (N 40° 27.117 W 075° 55.279)
B. “Pilgrim’s run” (N 40° 27.109 W 075° 55.279)
C. “Pilgrim’s road” (N 40° 27.111 W 075° 55.271)
D. “Pilgrim’s rock” (N 40° 27.123 W 075° 55.287)
Note - If you cannot find this one, adjust your coordinates 30 feet NE
Note: A historical marker was placed on April 22, 1950 at N 40° 30.796 W 076° 20.241 commemorating this spring. There is a second marker (placed in 1946 by Blue Mountain Eagle Climbing Club Historical Society of Berks County) at N 40 30.803, W 76 20.262 commemorating the spring as well.
Note: This cache has the hunting attribute selected. Hunters wear orange, and when the time is right, and so should you. During hunting season, it is best to do this series on a Sunday. The majority of the cache containers are hidden within 10 - 20 feet from the trail. Since these caches are hidden in the woods, you will encounter things like wildlife, poison ivy, bugs, ticks, etc. That is just part of geocaching in the great outdoors. Good Luck.
