THE STORY:
Continued from L&C Ep3. The Hideout (Pioneer's Park).

Finding the hideout turned out to be exactly what the boys needed to put the story together.

The guy was obviously a thief. Lanny thought the guy must get hired to steal things and he has all these areas set up where he can drop off different items and then he changes his identity and ‘poof’ he disappears again. He probably escaped from prison and that’s why there were handcuffs in the first place they found.

“So what do we do about it?” Coe questioned. “Don’t you think we should tell someone now?”

“We don’t know enough yet.” Lanny thought for a moment, trying to figure out what to do. “I have a feeling that now that he has his new identity, he’s going to make a run for it. So we have to catch up to him and try to figure out where he’s going. Maybe then we can do something to stop him.”

Before Coe could even respond, Lanny grabbed his hand and took off out of the hideout and followed the footprints again.

As they came up on the place where the man had gone to, Lanny could see him approaching an object that, once again, didn’t look like something that would be a container of any kind. Suddenly, he had an idea.

“Coe, we have to distract him somehow. We need to see what’s in there before he does.” Lanny whispered to his little brother.

“Yeah but how?” Coe asked.

Lanny remembered that Coe has a pretty accurate arm.

“How about if you find a safe place here in the woods and throw rocks at him? You need to get him annoyed enough to come away from the object, or at least turn his back to it. Then I’ll run up and quietly look inside. How does that sound?”

“I don’t know, what if he comes after me or catches me?” Coe said concerned.

“He won’t chase you, he wants to get out of here as fast as possible. He would just yell at you, but you have to keep throwing things at him until I’m clear. Then I’ll swing back around and get you.” Lanny let his brother take this in.

“Ok, but please hurry and be careful. This is scary!” Coe said.

So Lanny snuck around the side and waited for Coe to get into position with a pile of rocks. When he saw the first one fly, he couldn’t help but get a little cracked up. Coe was deadly accurate and nailed the guy right on the back of the head as he opened up container and was just about to reach inside.

The guy cursed and turned around. After staring off into the woods for a second, he let it go and leaned back down over the cache. Right then another rock came flying.

Exact same spot.

This time the guy growled. He popped up and this time took a few steps toward the woods where Coe was hiding.

“Ok, I know your there!” He yelled. “That better be the last one you little brat!” He was obviously assuming some kid was playing with him.

This time, Coe’s timing couldn’t have been better. Right as the man turned around, the rock came into view and hit the guy in the head. Immediately the guy turned back toward the woods and ran toward the trees.

Lanny was a little bit worried for his brother, but took this opportunity to run for the open container. He came up on it, dropped to his knees, and reached inside. When he saw what he needed to see. He hopped back up and ran as fast as he could for the spot he had come out from.

The man was standing on the edge of the woods, yelling something at Coe.

But Coe wasn’t there.

In the time it took Lanny to make it back, Coe had swung around too and was waiting for him. He had the biggest grin on his face.

“3 for 3” He whispered through a small chuckle.

“Shhhhhh.” Lanny cautioned him. Then he turned to his little brother…

“I got what we need to catch him. Let’s go find the police.”

And with that, they were off.
