Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the Spokane History Geocache Tour. If you are participating in this Geocache Tour be sure to download and print your passport at SpokaneGeoTour.com and get started today.

"...the most picturesque tract of 50 acres lying on the high bluffs west of the city. The rocky cliffs and scenic valleys will allow for a driveway passing through the lower side which the grandeur will compare favorably with anything in the Northwest." This was the wording in a Report of the Board of Park Commissioners in 1913 after the 50 acres was donated by John A. Finch and so began what is today a roughly 700 acre city park.

This park strives to be a "Leave No Trace" park.

The cache location brings you to a nice spot overlooking the Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Founded in 1888 Greenwood has 3 terraces within its 150 acres. From the vantage points like this one along the Palisades rim one will be able to observe the grandure of Greenwood on special days like July 4 and especially Memorial Day when American flags fly proud on what seems like every gravesite.

2015 is the inaugural year of Spokane Geocache Tour. This Spokane County tour will send geocachers on a trip through Spokane History, finding caches in areas of historical significance. Visit urban and rural gems, historic farming communities, forts, geological marvels, and seek new adventures. The Spokane History Geocache Tour rewards those who complete with a commemorative geocoin featuring the native Spokane Salish language.

  • Be sure to read the challenge rules and print your passport at SpokaneGeoTour.com.
  • You must record the cache code word on the passport with the code inside each Geocache Tour cache to qualify for a geocoin.

The Spokane History Geocache Tour is sponsored by Spokane County TPA, Cache Advance, and Washington State Geocaching Association (WSGA). We hope you enjoy the tour!
