Geocache Description:

The Cruach Mharthain is not an extremely high mountain on Dingle Penin but he is some kind of lighthouse for this area, as you, when the weather is clear, have a complete 360° view over the western part of the Dingle Peninsula.

The views are really breathtaking:

- Look to the north you see far below the exposed the three sisters
- Look to the northeast you see beautiful Smerwick Harbour and the impresssive Brandon Mountains
- Look to the east you see the Dingle Harbour
- Look to the southeast you see lovely Ventry Harbour
- Look to the south you have a great look on Mount Eagle and the path up to the summit
- Look to the southwest you see the Great Blasket Island
- Look to the west you see Sleeping Giant
- Look to the northwest you see Clogher Head and Sybil Point and a lot of lovely beaches inbetween

Enjoy the views! Just below the summit you find a stone fomation with the cache, this formation also provides you shelter from the winds to enjoy the views longer as if you are standing in the sometimes strong winds...

When you start at Parking 2 you will take the direct steep way up to the summit, this covers a distance of about 1 km.

If you start at the recommended Parking 1 the way is longer (about 2,5 km) but you have all the time the view over to Great Blasket Island and all the beautiful scenery around. You may also visit the Cache 'Tranquility' on your way up, enjoy the silence!

Beyond Tranquility it is not easy to find a good way up. Go back to the track, follow it to the first waypoint and continue in right direction. Use the exposed rip to go up, it is like a very small ridge, but you can go quicker there and also keep your shoes dry, normally...

At the second point you should reach a sheep trail which brings you on a zig-zag route up the very steep part of the hill. After completing this the job is done and you easily reach the summit, but take care during the decent!!!
