I love Chalmette Movies. Though they show plenty of big budget, blockbuster films, they also often show more offbeat, independent movies.
Here's a quote from their website that is from an article about them: "A lot of theaters look strictly at the bottom line, and if a film performs poorly outside the New Orleans area, film bookers would rather play Movie X on 5 screens, instead of giving something back to their community. I've always said, run your multi-plex as a half-screen less venture. If you can't pay the bills on 5 1/2 screens, then you can't pay the bills on six screens. Use the other half-screen to be diverse and play what you want to play, play movies that are important socially, even if they're box office failures. New Orleans is equally worthy of the same movies that play elsewhere, even if we're not L.A. or New York."
My wife and I often arrive early for a movie to get dinner at the oddly named "Beignets and More" which is actually a Vietnamese restaurant.
