Geocache Description:

Cotton Belt #4:  The Roundhouse and Yard at Tyler.  #14 in Rail Fan Series.

Cotton Belt #4 is located at what to me was the epicenter of the Cotton Belt.  The turntable and shops here could be seen from the Beckham Avenue Bridge and it was a site to see back in the day.  Not much of a railraod site now but the UP has offices here and some of the original shop buildings are being used by other industries.  Do drive on around the curve and see the original roundhouse shops and what remains of the rail yard.  The loop of track which encircled the roundhouse and yard is still here and being used.  I know the SSW had some major works areas in Arkansas but being from East Texas this was to me the heart of the Cotton Belt.

The cache is a different type from all the other 4 and blends in with its surroundings pretty well.  It is near the road and not difficult to get to.  There is little traffic here other than UP employees coming and going.  While searching for a location and placing the cache not one car passed.
