On July 8, 1863, Confederate Brigadier General John Hunt Morgan and two thousand cavalrymen crossed the Ohio River into Indiana. They crossed from Brandenburg, Kentucky, using two captured steamboats. For six days the raiders rode through southern Indiana. Morgan and his men had conducted earlier raids, but this would be remembered as his Great Raid of 1863. It also was the only major military activity in Indiana during the Civil War.
This series has been placed along a section of the Heritage Trail from Morgan's Raiders crossing on the Ohio River to Lexington, IN which includes 13 historical markers. Most in this series will be multi caches requiring you to determine the final coordinates from information provided on the historical signs and a little simple math.
A few notes related to these caches:
1 - All caches contain only a vinyl log. A permanent marker works best here. To complete this series tweezers would come in extremely handy. Due to the size of the log - initials or team names are preferred to save space.
2 - Under most of the historical signs you will find velcro that are the remnants of a previous series of caches. These are not the current cache. Found It logs that state found velcro - cache missing will be deleted.
3 - Some of these caches are off the beaten path plan your fuel, food and bathroom breaks accordingly.
You are searching for a camo'd tube containing a synthetic log sheet. You will need tweezers to extract the log and a sharpie type marker works best for signing, but a pen or pencil will make a dent.. Dents are acceptable.. It is hidden in a normal manner.
