This cache will bring you to the Bay Oval and although a vast amount of work has been accomplished in this area lately - it cannot truly be considered a place of interest until a cache is placed.
It should be a quick park and grab but its a popular spot with kids, dogs and various other sporting activities so keep an eye out.
Personally I'm not a big fan of Cricket - but apparently it has a large following. The 11th ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand meant there was cricket everywhere earlier this year and with this spot taking off I felt a little inspired. Hopefully all you Black Caps fans have moved past that 7 wicket defeat to Aussie in the finals and it's not too soon to bring you back to the cricket grounds
The Bay Oval, situated on Blake Park, Mount Maunganui, is the premier cricket ground of the Bay of Plenty Region. Set against the backdrop of Mount Mauao, the Bay Oval is an internationally sized, purpose built ground. It boasts 70 m boundaries, enclosed by a white picket fence, surrounded by grass embankments with seating for up to 10,000 people. The Bay Oval also has an 18-strip grass practice facility able to be used throughout the year due to the exceptional climate of the region, and the free draining surrounds.
The Oval is now complimented by the Carrus Pavilion, which features international standard changing and player viewing facilities. The Carrus Corporation Ltd are Tauranga based leaders in property development and management. They are also the Bay Oval Trust and the Mount Maunganui Cricket Clubs (MMCC) primary sponsor and thus the pavilion bares their name.
The Bay Oval is becoming New Zealand’s preferred pre-season training facility, hosting a number of First Class teams as well as internationals including Afghanistan and South Africa, the Black Caps and White Ferns. Further development saw the construction of a media tower/sight screen providing state of the art facilities for television and radio broadcasts. The Bay Oval is certainly ready to host and is now recognised as a genuine boutique international facility.
