The original Lutheran Home on the Shorehaven site (pictured below) opened in 1939 in a former mansion which was built in the late 1800’s.  It was used as a private hospital for a time, and then was sold and again used as a private residence with a night club-restauarant in the basement.  After its purchase by Lutheran Homes, Inc., the night club area was used for dining rooms and recreation with upper floors used to house patients. It was occupied in 1959, increasing the capacity from the former 44 residents to 65.

The original building was razed in 1961 and construction on the second unit was completed in the fall of 1962, bringing the capacity to 125 residents.

By looking around this area and across Hwy 16, Shorehaven has come a long way from one building to multiple buildings on their 17-acre campus and continues to grow.

There is a rubber stamp and stamp pad in the Cache container for those doing this as a Letterbox, along with the conventional Log sheets for logging/Stamping your visit. Trading items are provided. "Please do not remove the rubber stamp or ink pad"
