I grew up near this area. I think a large percentage of the houses were built in the 70s to accommidate newcomers to Greenwich. So when I was a kid the place was filled with children my age. Just between Gatefield Drive, Will Merry Lane, Hope Farm Road and Hedgerow there must have been fifty kids my own age give or take a year. If you expand that to a five year window there were 200+.
In 1979 some of the older kids found this area and decided it would be a great place to make a BMX dirt bike trail. So they all worked together with whatever tools they could find and built a "course" through the woods. It had jumps and banks and straight aways. The crazy ones would race each other head to head, but most of us just timed each other to see who could go the fastest.
It survived into the summer of 1980, but I think by the summer of 1981 we had started to fish at the pond near Hope Farm and the track become unusable. I haven't been back since the early 80s, but when thinking about where to hide a cache this old spot came to mind.
There is no sign of the old track anymore the area is completely overgrown , but we did see an old bike that had been abandoned. [Look at the galley to see a picture] I have no idea if it was one of ours, but it was very funny to see. There are no trails here anymore but the walking isn't too tough.
I put two bags in the cache. One is labeled travel bugs. I thought this might work as a TB Hotel given its proximity to the Merritt. I also started it off with a bunch of kids toys (match box cars etc)
It seem like the waypoint was off, so I've removed it. I will go back and reset it when I have a chance. Please park on Springhouse Road, that is the best way to get to the cache.
