This idyllic island is infrequently visited, but intrepid geocachers will enjoy this unusual get together in the heart of the capital. Springbank Island has full BBQ, picnic, shelter and toilet facilities at the western end of the island. This event will commence at 12:10 on the island.
You are welcome to use your own water transport to the island, but please do not block the jetty with your craft. Swimming across is not advised. There is an optional, return boat passage arranged from the boat-launch way-point where you can board the SS Unsinkable for the short trip over to the jetty on Springbank Island. Please arrive well before this time if you need to purchase a ticket for the return journey to the island. The boat will leave promptly at 12:00. Tickets cost $14 pp if we have less that 30 people and only $10 pp if we have more. Ticket costs will be based on indicated requirement. Cash only on the day please. This boat is arranged for your convenience.
Please bring food/drinks. There may be some BBQ sausages available if there is time and I can find a chef.
Pay attention to weather conditions on the day as cold westerly winds and rain can make it a very unpleasant place to be. Please dress accordingly.
Itinerary:
- Assemble at the boat-launch way-point at 12:00. Please arrive earlier if you need to purchase a boat ticket. I will be there from about 11:00 at the meeting point.
- 12:00 - 12:10 Travel by boat the island landing at the jetty or via your own water transport.
- 12:10 - 13:00 Lunch at picnic area. Chat, eat, swap geo-coins, stories, hints and travel bugs. Sign optional log. Enjoy.
- 13:00 - 13:10 Travel by boat back to boat launch way-point or by your own craft.
The cache log will only be made available on the island at gz and while signing the log at the event is optional, it is encouraged.
Please register your attendance as early as possible indicating if you require boat transport. If you do not indicate you need the boat, I will assume you do not. If you wish to prepay, please email/message the CO for details.
