You are looking for a small lock and lock plastic container that is placed near one of the most breathtaking views in Oregon. It is just below the first landing and does not require any dangerous climbing to retrieve.
This cache is named for Elmo Johnson. The Steens Mountains were his second home. He famously would hunt the gorge below this cache by dropping in from the viewpoint. He passed away November 12th, 2008. Nearby, we have constructed a small memorial to this great man. We ask that you don't disturb it as it requires significant climbing and risk. Elmo was one of the kindest, most humble men on Earth. His servant's heart led him to be widely loved by everyone who spent time with him. His last wish was to have his ashes spread at this spot. As a testament to this great man we place this cache in hopes that others will come out and enjoy the beauty of God's creation. We love you Elmo and you will never be forgotten. Ephesians 2:10
