**NOTE FOR CACHERS. There is a gravel Road from Matatiele to Swartberg. This road is NOT suitable for standard Road sedans. The road is very rough and has some serious bumps and potholes. If you are in a bakkie/SUV you will be fine. Please do not use this road if you are not in a suitable car. The road also gets rather muddy in places after rains.
Swartberg (Zwartberg) is a small hamlet, in the Franklin district of East Griqualand (EG).
Swartberg lies on the R617, 40 km from Kokstad, and 70 km from Underberg. Swartberg has very basic and simple amenities, a Police station, a general dealer / shop, a farmers co-op, and a petrol station, run by the co-op.
Swartberg also has a Farmers association, with a club house, Polo fields, Polocrosse field, a derilect tennis club, a disused cricket oval, and the farmers hall. The main farming in the area, is beef cattle and sheep, and livestock sales/auctions are held on occasion at the farmers yard. There is a active Polo and Polocrosse club, which caters for farmers in the area, and has even seen some springbok polo players spending years training here.
The CACHE is a camo painted preform, located in the grounds of the famers hall. Access is ONLY off the Kokstad road, onto a small dirt track, and through a white wooden pole gate. You do not need to go into the building, the cache is in the parking area. Please DO NOT attempt at night due to extreme darkenss and security. Please also replace cahce so it does not fall out of it's hiding spot.
