Off the Beaten Track No.9 – The Mighty Oak Traditional Cache

The Cache

At certain times of the year the tree cover may give your GPSr problems here. Therefore you will need to look for a large Oak tree (I originally mistook it for another Fir) with Elephant Ear fungus at its base. If you are doing this one on its own, it is only about 30m from the Junction on a hard core path.

Hillsborough Forest Park

The Series

These caches are to replace the Strangely Curious series that were set in 2008 and have now seen better days. This series has been inspired by a renewed love for the area following the addition of our new pup, called Tara, which has seen us getting off the beaten track once again, hence the name of the series. The caches have been placed on or near our regular walking routes, which predominately follow the animal and dog walkers’ trails. Please enjoy, but a word of caution, remember the caches are not on waymarked paths under tree cover so navigation will be that little bit more difficult and conditions under foot maybe challenging at certain times of the year.
