Geocache Description:

This is the site of a footbridge built by Matthew Jackson, a corn merchant, in 1907. It connected his house to his garden and tennis court on the opposite side of the road. The bridge was destroyed in 1967 by a lorry driver who failed to lower his tipper lorry before driving into town and subsequently crashed into the bridge.  The brickwork seen on the opposite side of the road houses the steps which led to the bridge.

Please be very careful when feeling for the cache as it may get knocked off and please replace the cache EXACTLY where found. Thanks. Access is from the footpath, no need to cross the road. Premium status removed 5/8/21
