Cowboy was coming back from a long three day ride from Gallup, New Mexico after buying a couple of new horses for his ranch remuda. He was tired and hungry and he still had a 20 mile ride back to the ranch north of Cortez. Cowboy decided to camp for the night and he made a fire, cooked a rabbit he shot an hour ago, he had some jerky, some hardtack and coffee for dinner
Cowboy was resting under a tree when he heard a couple of riders approach. A handsome young man rode up followed by pretty gal on a magnificent white gelding. Cowboy spoke up, “Where you headed ?” The bewildered couple explained they were newlyweds looking to start a ranch in Colorado. They were coming from southern Arizona and had lost their way. Cowboy extended his hand and said “Well son, my name is Cowboy and this is the Gateway to Colorado. You are welcome to spend the night in my camp and we can ride into Cortez in the morning. Have some coffee to warm your bones. And I got some hardtack and roasted rabbit I can share with you"
The cache is inside an unusual container. Tweezers or forceps are helpful to remove the log.
