The 2015 Cache Your Way program is over but the cache remains for the fun of it!
About
This site contains the highest glaciated point in Illinois. This spot is marked by a benchmark (NH1146).
To Find the Cache
GPS units don't always work well at this site, so this is a Letterbox hybrid! Start out down the trail from the trailhead. When the trail splits, go to your right (its the quickest and what the rest of the instructions are based on!). Proceed to the listed coordinates. These coordinates will take you to the above mentioned benchmark (this is how you will know you are in the right spot!). The benchmark with be on your right hand (west side) of the trail. From here, continue going forward and down the hill. Walk for approximately 70 feet (I went 45 SMALL steps because its steep and slippery) - this will put you about halfway to the bottom of the hill. On your right hand side (west) is a downed tree right next to the trail. You will find this cache somewhere in the downed tree.
Cache Your Way Question
High Point recently had some restoration work done. At the completion of this work, a small pond appeared. The pond is a great habitat for frogs. What work was done on this site?
Warning Note
This is a NATURE trail - it contains thorny buses and prickly bushes. Be careful especially if traveling with a dog or small children.
