Geocache Description:

Cowboy owned a ranch north of Cortez.  He and three of his ranch wrangler buddies were bragging on who was the toughest of the bunch.  After all the brash talk, Cowboy suggested they group all take a ride up to Mesa Verde where there was a herd of mustangs that had never seen a saddle.  The plan was to rope a few and pony them back to the ranch and put on a “ranch rodeo”.

Each wrangler would throw in $25 in the pot to sweeten the bet.  The wrangler who could stay in the saddle the longest was the winner.   The group road out early one morning and spotted a head of mustangs.  They chased the horses into a box canyon and each wrangler roped a nice horse.  After working all day to get the mustangs back to the ranch, the wranglers waited until Saturday for the rodeo.  The rodeo was fun for all including the ranch cooks and the wranglers that came over from nearby ranches to watch.  After four hours of fighting with the mustangs trying to saddle them and jump on for a wild ride, Old Butch was declared the winner and collected the bet.  Butch said, “Cowboy, you lost to a better man”.  Cowboy just smiled and pointed to the mustangs and said, “I would say I won, pointing to the mustangs.  Now I got four good ranch horses for just my $25 bet since you boys work for me”.  He walked off laughing.laugh

The cache is a black camo container with log. Tweezers, forceps or similar tool is helpful. Pullout on Highway 160
