General info:

Fisher's Landing was named for Mr. William Fisher, a civil engineer for the St. Paul & Pacific Railway Company sent there to survey for the laying of the railroad track. It was a tough frontier settlement located on the banks of the Red Lake River, several blocks west and north of the present downtown site of the town of Fisher. It's location was determined by the landing of the steamboats that came down the Red and Red Lake Rivers. Originally, it was called Shirttail Bend because a shirt tied on a stick warned the steamboats of a bend in the river. Boats travelled regular routes between Fisher's Landing and Winnipeg. Because Fisher's Landing was the head of navigation, the railroad tracks were laid to meet the boat traffic there in 1875. With the extension of the railroad to Grand Forks, and the ever-changing river depths, river traffic declined and the village moved to it's present site--up the riverbank to higher ground.

There are no remaining buildings or artifacts from the old Fisher's Landing: flood waters took their toll: but history books have recorded the importance of the terminus in those early pioneer days. A sign telling of this history is erected west of the town of Fisher on Cty. Rd. #15 coming in from Hwy. #2. It is on the right side of the road approaching the bridge over the Red Lake River.
