Kivisalmi on ahdas salmi venereitillä Veskoniemen kylästä Inarin kirkonkylään. Inarinjärvi on Merenkulkuhallituksen toimesta hyvin reittiopastettu. Järvellä on runsaasti kirjainmerkittyjä kummeleita sekä myös väyläviittoja, joiden viestiä veneilijän on syytä noudattaa. Näin on myös Kivisalmessa, joka on syytä mennä opasteiden mukaan. Talvella Inarilla kulkijoiden on syytä välttää ahtaita salmipaikkoja, sillä jään alaiset virtaukset pitävät jään petollisen ohuena. Niinpä moottorikelkkareitti Inari - Veskoniemi kulkee mantereen puolella noin sata metriä venereitistä länteen.
Järvellä liikkujan perusväline on merikortti tai sen pohjalta tehty 1 : 50 000 veneilykartta.
Kivisalmi is a narrow strait at the boating route from Veskoniemi up to Inari village. There are lots of marked route guides and other guidance in Lake Inari. One has better to follow these guidance everywhere he or she goes. That is a fact with Kivisalmi too, it's narrow and has big stones under water surface. During winter it's better to avoid narrow straits because the stream just under the ice makes the ice too thin to go safely. That's why the route for snow vehicles lies a hundred metres to thes from Kivisalmi.
When boating or canoing You should have the navigational chart or 1 : 50 000 boating map of Lake inari.
