Geocache Description:

Khawr al Udayd (Inland Sea) served as a refuge for pirates from Abu Dhabi during the 19th century. Members of the Bani Yas tribe migrated and settled in the area on two separate occasions: 1835 and 1849. One of the more notable settlers in 1835 was the pirate Jasim bin Jabir..

On the way to the Inland Sea there is beacon in the middel of the desert Highway heading to the Inland Sea or the coast near the Inland Sea, a 4x4 is required. Up to this The Desert Highway has become a very hard pack and can be done without crossing any soft sand.

At The Cross you decide which part of Inland Sea you are going to visit and enjoy the day or camp over.

photo 20160220_104006_zpspnuclycy.jpg Driving in the desert can be hazardous, with numerous accidents reported each year. The website Cars in Doha lists a number of safety tips for those considering a drive in the desert, including: •Make sure your car has four-wheel-drive; •Ensure it is in full working order, including oil and water levels, brakes and seat belts; •Have the right tires and tire pressure for desert driving (18psi is recommended for most journeys, but it can be lower, depending on the terrain); and • Don’t drive alone – you might have an accident, get stuck, get lost or have a mechanical problem with your car and need help. Motorists are also advised to ensure they have a spare tire and basic emergency equipment including a towing rope, spade, torch and extra batteries. If they are going to go to do some dune bashing.
