If you've traveled this section of Route 88 as long as I have, you may have already done this cache's namesake (GC1HDF9). It was archived 5 years ago, when New York State budget cuts forced the closure of many highway rest areas. I was First To Find on that cache (in fact, it was the first First to Find I ever found!) back in 2008, and so was sad to see it go. Few of us in those days felt the State budget would improve to the point that the rest areas would ever open again.
Well, how wrong we were. Of course, it's no longer just a Rest Area; it's a Text Stop now! And best of all, it's once again a Caching Stop.
I placed this cache in the same spot where its predecessor lay (and I thought I might find it still there, perhaps encased in caterpillar nests, but I see it was rescued by the daring team of Wolf and Duck many years ago). The new cache is regular-size, so it's large enough for most TB's, not just coins like its predecessor. I started it off with 3 TB's and some pretty good swag (and if people trade fairly, it'll stay that way!)
So now the only thing missing from this texting stop is bathroom facilities. But the crews are working on them, and they'll be ready soon.
