Hiker and Marathon - KSDS!
WARNING!!!!!!! WARNING!!!!!!! The cache is NOT at the POSTED coords. Solve the PUZZLE first, then go find KSDS!
KSDS was eager to train for the marathon and a very long hike that was forth coming. Maybe a bit too eager!
We all know that KSDS is a very over the top, overachieving kind of guy. KSDS went on longer and longer training runs and hikes until he ONE day finally disappeared! His last call was to one of his caching buddies for he really thought they could find him, however once the phone rang, just once.... the battery dropped dead. Perhaps you can help track down some evidence of what happened to him or where he might be. The last we knew, he wanted to be prepared for an upcoming marathon AND he wanted to go caching on a very, very, long hiking trail.
Here is what I got from his wife. On his last training run, KSDS had planned on running a distance equivalent to FOUR marathons. His starting location was at the posted coordinates! His plan was to run the distance of a marathon due North. At that point, he was going to run the same distance except due East. Once there, he would run due South; and finally finish out running due West. His thought was that he would end up where he started, just running a big old square. But something went horribly wrong.
UPDATE: I just recently learned that he called home first! We know he did not end up where he started for his call was frantic, beyond panic, he was LOST and need help finding his way back to where he started. After no one at home was able to help him, he hung up saying something about calling treasure seeking buddies... That was the LAST we heard!
I would say in theory, that KSDS failed to take into account that he was running on a sphere (the EARTH). I say this for we all know if he would have been running on a flat surface, then he would have traversed the four equal sides of a square and his starting and ending point would have been in the same South West corner. Only if he had understood that each of the FOUR legs was actually a circle route on the WGS84 spheroid, NOT a square!
Those of us that know KSDS, understand that he IS an overachiever! Nothing would or could STOP him in his pursuit of getting ready for that LONG hike or his marathon run. Running across water, climbing fences and buildings, crossing through private property, nor traffic would not stand in his WAY. You could try and retrace his steps, but that would be very, hum, dangerous! Can you help?
