Geocache Description:


Am 24. Februar 1944 stürzte hier ein amerikanischer B 17 Bomber ab. Die Teile des Flugzeuges waren auf rund 3 km² verstreut. 
Übermittlungen zu Folge wurde der Bomber von einem deutschen Jagdflieger in Brand geschossen. Dem Großteil der Besatzung gelang es den Flieger mittels Fallschirm zu verlassen.  Unter den Überlebenden war der Bordschütze S/Stg. Robert T. Peterson, welcher im Jahre 1997 die Absturzstelle besuchte.

  • Höhe: 19 ft
  • Eigengewicht: 37.300 lb
  • max. Bombenlast: 17.600 lb


Der Cache lässt sich toll mit einer Wanderung durch Haibach verbinden. Parke dafür bei der „Freiwilligen Feuerwehr Haibach“ und folgende dem Wanderweg „H2“. Für alle anderen gibt es in der Nähe des Caches einige Parkmöglichkeiten am Straßenrand.

An American B17 bomber crashed here on February 24, 1944. The parts of the aircraft were scattered over approximately three km².
 A german pursuitplan brougth  the bomber down. The majority of the crew managed to leave by parachute. One of the survivors was the gunner S/Stg. Robert T. Peterson, who visited the crash site in 1997.

The cache can be combined with a great hiking tour through Haibach. Start your hike at the „ voluntary  fire brigade Haibach" and follow the trail "H2“.
