The caches in this series cannot be reached from the river bank, so small non-powered water craft will be required (head clearance and obstructions). There is a small and awkward launch spot by the advocated parking area (see Burpham Loop #1), which can be found by walking about 10 yards south of the car park along the river bank. A few other spots at places alongside the secondary parking spot are also available. Please do not use the private pontoons.
The loop is only navigable at or around high tide, which is approximately 1 hour after high tide at Littlehampton. Unless you intend to paddle further up river than the top end of the loop, I recommend that you do not set off more than 30 minutes before the predicted local high tide. The main river itself can be very fast flowing, and battling against it is not always easy.
From the chosen launch spot, head up river a short distance until you see a tributary heading east, and set off up it. All of the caches in the series are along this loop. After paddling under the second bridge you will regain the main river. Turning left will return you directly to the start point, or continuing right will allow you to paddle up to Amberley or beyond, which is highly recommended if time, tide and weather are favourable
