Geocache Description:

**The coordinates do NOT take you to the cache, but rather to the city park where you need to gather educational information to figure out the cache coordinates.**

Easy field puzzle in a nice park, with plenty of free parking. Puzzle is a 1.5D & hide may be around a 2.5D.

Welcome to the 1.5 acre Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Park! The park features a 38-foot and 110,000 lb. obelisk, similar in shape to the Washington Monument. It is placed on a 3-foot base with steps on four sides, giving park visitors a closer look at excerpts from Dr. King’s renowned “I Have a Dream” speech that are engraved into the monument. The park also features 12 granite tablets with information about Dr. King and his journey. Plenty of free parking is available at location.

The listed coordinates will take you to the park where the educational puzzle information is located. To solve this educational puzzle, you will need to explore the park and discover interesting facts about Dr. King’s life and journey for equal rights…all within very short walking distance. It will be helpful to have something to take notes on/in. Please follow the instructions below:

1. Locate the obelisk. What is the year of Dr. King’s birth? B = The last number in the year.

2. Locate the water feature. How many spray-heads does it have, including the center head? D = Total number of spray-heads.

3. Locate the black historical marker. What is the dedication day? G = Second digit in the day.

4. Locate the “Birth” granite tablet. What year did Dr. King’s father change their names? A = The last number in the year.

5. Locate the “Early Life” tablet. What is the street number of his early year’s home? I = The middle number of the street address.

6. Locate the “College” tablet. Subtract the year he was ordained a minister from the year he graduated seminary school. E = ___ + 2.

7. On one of the “Civil Rights Movement” tablets, how many days did the (non-extended) Rosa Parks bus boycott last? F = # of days.

8. On another of the “Civil Rights Movement” tablets, C = the second digit in the number of people the “March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom” drew.

9. Locate the “Legacy” tablet. Congress passed legislation to make the ___ Monday in January a national holiday in honor of Dr. King. H = ___ + 2.

10. Lastly, locate the “Bailey Monument Co” podium. Count the number of bricks surrounding the podium. J = # of bricks minus 97. # - 97 = J

Although the park is open 24/7, I would not recommend attempting this cache at night. This is my first cache so I welcome any constructive feedback :0) Good luck and enjoy MLK Park!
