The 2015 Cache Your Way program is over but the cache remains for the fun of it!
About
Visitors can trek on over 6 miles of looped trails or cross-country ski on 2 miles of groomed trails in the winter. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy a picnic at a picnic table or one of the 2 shelters. Pitch a tent, gather around a campfire and enjoy a starry night in the group campground area (advanced reservations required). Fishing is available in the clear, deep waters of Lake Atwood (22 acres), Little Atwood Lake (2.5 acres) or West Lake (12 acres). Launch a canoe, kayak or electric motorized rowboat and take a spin around Lake Atwood.
American Toads
American toads are large, growing up to 4.5 inches in length and fully grown adults are usually chubby in appearance. They are typically brown, brick-red or olive colored. They have patterns of lighter colors, as well as brown spots. All have warts and some have a light stripe down their back. They also have spotted bellies.
American toads hide under rocks, logs and leaf litter during the day. In cold weather, they can burrow up to three feet underground. American toads can live up to 30 years.
Cache Your Way Question
They have special glands which produce a foul-smelling, toxic chemical that will keep some predators from eating it. What are these glands called?
