Geocache Description:

Welcome to Lyons Prairie and Marsh

At 440 acres, this site has almost 2 miles of hiking trails, as well as a portion of the horse Hickory Grove Highlands horse trail (also available for hiking) winding through it.

The 2015 Cache Your Way program is over but the cache remains for the fun of it!

About

299.5 acres of this site are designated as Illinois State Nature Preserve.  Much of this site is off limits to geocaching but special care was taken to find an appropriate location.  While this cache does not take you far on the loop, it is worth the journey to see the view at the end!   It’s a short, easy walk but due to an existing cache and limitations for the nature preserve, this one was not able to be placed too close to the scenic view.

Bullfrogs

This frog has an olive green back, side’s blotches with brownish markings and a whitish belly spotted with yellow or grey.  The upper lip is often bright green.  The call of the male bullfrog reminds people of the roar of a bull.  The bullfrog lives in permanent water bodies and is usually found along the water’s edge.

Cache Your Way Question

Bullfrogs are known to be big leapers.  How big of leaps can they make?

About the Hide

Basic traditional hide with a camoed peanut butter container.  There are two trailheads - I did not mark the right was as once again there trail just loops and you will be able to end up in the same place (if you end up needing to cross a road, you went the wrong way at one of the trail heads!!!).  In fact, its worth the walk for the view at the end - I wanted to place one here but a current cache by another geocacher was too close and I could not go beyone this point as it is a Dedicated Nature Preseve - but if you have time, its a great view at the end!
