Don't forget to challenge yourself with the gadget cache just a short stroll away: Malmö C - STOPiT!.
The modern harbour of Malmo was built in 1775 and this bridge erected in 1885. It crosses a small river leading into the harbour and connected a wharf that held the Fisktorget (Fish Market) to the main part of the harbour. The square was built in 1894 at Bastion Älvsborg immediately west of the bridge. Here fish was sold and transported by railway. In 1969, the square was removed and the name expired, but the statue "Fiskegumma" ("Fish granny") from 1949 by the sculptor Clarence Blum is reminiscent of the fishing trading spot. There is a plaque on the bridge with the name and date of erection and Malmo coat of arms on it. Today only pedestrians and cyclists use the bridge.
