Geocache Description:

This is the final piece of the Adams Memorial Cache Triad.  First there was the Adams Memorial as part of the Women of Rock Creek. Then there was Black Aggie. Now we're down to the final Adams Memorial statue in DC.

For more information about the original Adams Memorial and the infamous unauthorized replica (Black Aggie) click the links above to take you to the other two cache descriptions.

The coordinates will bring you to one of the entrances of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. As such, this technically wouldn't qualify as a "Hidden Gems" entry but I'm a sucker for consistency and the other two statues were hidden gems so this one gets grandfathered in. Once inside, head up to the Second Floor East Wing to find the Adams Memorial. You can also ask one of the security guards. The one I asked gave me a blank stare and then said "Oh, you mean the lady...go down this hallway, make a left. Go to the end of that hallway and up the stairs."

Technically, the security guard is wrong. As mentioned in the description for the Women of Rock Creek, "the shrouded being is neither male nor female, neither triumphant nor downcast. Its message is inscrutable." Although Adams initially resisted reproducing the statue, he eventually realized the power of the sculpture and allowed reproductions to be made and sold to a select few. The Smithsonian purchased this authorized reproduction in 1970.

To get to the final, you'll need to look at the sculpture, it's background images, and the label on the wall. The final can be found a few blocks away, across the street from another location famous for it's authorized reproductions. The coordinates are ±13.6'. You're looking for a magnetic nano.

N 38° 53.8BD, W 77° 1.AC6

A : Subtract the first year the statue was modeled from the year the statue was cast. Once you have the answer, subtract the second digit from the first digit. (Year statue was cast - first year statue was modeled = WX. W-X=A)

B : Subtract the year Clover Adams committed suicide from the year that Augustus Saint-Gaudens was born. Once you have the answer, subtract the second digit from the first digit.(Year Augustus Saint-Gaudens was born - year Clover Adams = YZ. Z-Y=B

C : Number of obelisks in the background image + number of airvents in the corner with the statue.

D: How many other Adams Memorial statues are in DC (not including the one you're looking at)?

The final location is accessible 24/7. The Smithsonian American Art Museum is open 11:30am-7pm 364 days a year (it's closed on Christmas Day).

In case my word problems cause confusion, you can check your answers for this cache on GeoChecker.com.
