The name for this cache was inspired during the many times I've looked up the Nearest Geocaches report, and then realized the information I was looking at was NOT pulled off the web, but off my hard drive, and was therefore not up to date.
This micro container is in Cross Cut Canal park, a very long, narrow park on the west side of 48th Street, between McDowell Road and Indian School road. Many years ago, a canal passed thru here, carrying water from north to south. By the 1980's, it was not used anymore, and was just a big ugly ditch along 48th Street. During the 1990's, the city filled the ditch in, and slowly created a park, first south of Thomas Road, then north. This latter section was completed, and had grass planted, only a couple years ago.
This cache is somewhere between Thomas Road and Osborn. There is no parking areas for the park itself, so you will have to park on neighborhood streets nearby, just east of 48th Street. If you bring any items to trade, they must be TINY- no bigger than 1.5 by 1 inch, and flat. Foreign coins and tiny flags would be fine. There is a log sheet in it, but THERE IS NO PEN OR PENCIL IN THIS CACHE. Make sure you bring your own writing implement with you.
Try not to be observed when retrieving or replacing the cache. If someone is on the path nearby, wait for them to pass- they probably will in a minute or so. A lot of locals use the path for their daily exercise. In fact, if it's not super hot when you arrive there, I'd suggest you take a little walk along the path too.
Happy Hunting!
