Geocache Description:

An easy park and grab close to the reclaimed "Charleston Tucker" mine portals. The cache is extra large.yes This cache is an actual container for  SCSR's stored in coal mines.

A Self Contained Self Rescurer (SCSR) is a single use, self-contained closed circuit breathing apparatus.( see photo) The SCSR will assist a person to escape from an area of the mine containing smoke, toxic gasses or an oxygen deficient atmosphere such as in a coal mine fire or explosion. This device will give approximately 60 minutes of oxygen depending on the physical demands of the user. At rest the device can provide oxygen for 4-6 hours.

Notice the top of the coal seam under the overlying sandstone. The coal seam is most likely the Winifrede of the Kanawha Formation. This coal was mined locally pre Civil War and may have fed the salt works fires. First To Find is a mining related belt buckle. Congrats to Man In The Wild for winning the FTF "WE Dig Coal" belt buckle. NOTE: This cache is located on private property, however, the owner has given permission for the cache to be on his land as long as you enter from the uphill end of the flat area and be mindful of the landscaping.
