Geocache Description:

Please note, you will need aquatic transportation to attend this event, hence the Level 5 Terrain Rating.

Also, as this is a Wildlife Management Area, BE SURE TO FILL out the card at the check in station so the rangers will be happy.

It's August, it's hot. But load up your kayak and head to this event if you can stand it. BYOP (Bring your own picnic). We will meet at the listed additional coordinates, launch our kayaks, and paddle to the event location. We'll break out our picnics and enjoy this beautiful natural area while we share stories of our geocaching adventures. After the event, there some caches nearby so you can paddle farther to get a few Smilies. There are several traditional caches, as well as a couple of Mystery Caches you can solve ahead of time. (Some of these can count towards the Geocaching Road Trip souvenirs if you need them). Bring any trackables you'd like to swap.

Event StartTime: 10:15 AM

Duration:   30 minutes. It will take around 15 minutes to paddle to the event coordinates from the launch area. Once we arrive, we will sign the log and have a couple of giveaways. After the event ends, you are free to head back or paddle to some of the nearby caches up or down river. Bring your own picnic and enjoy some snacks on the river with the group.

You will need:

  • A small boat or kayak
  • floatation device/life vest for safety
  • Bug repellant
  • liquid refreshment/water
  • Snacks/picnic

Remember that kayaking can be dangerous, so please plan accordingly and paddle at your own risk. Chimps8mybaby, co-host of this event, is a well-known expert in these parts. He'll be here to help us keep from getting lost. As with all water around here, there will be snakes and other critters. This area also seems to have quite a few wild hogs. Please note that there are several beaver dams in the area that you may have to portage over.

Rememeber that this is a WMA (Wildlife Management Area), BE SURE TO FILL out the card at the check in station when you leave the highway.
