Where the cyclist met his doom Traditional Cache

This cache is temporarily unavailable.

Hanoosh: Hi

This cache has been flagged by Geocaching HQ as one that may need attention.

It would appear that this cache may benefit from some attention by the cache owner as it has either not been found for a while or there is a reported issue with the cache. May I ask that you check the cache to confirm it is still in situ and/or deal with any maintenance required and/or give an indication of when it may be up and running again for people to find.

If there is no response to this log after 30 days I will archive the cache. In the meantime I am disabling the cache.

Guidelines:

  • You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to ensure it is in proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.) or posts a Needs Maintenance log. Temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have addressed the problem.

You are permitted a reasonable amount of time - generally, up to 4 weeks – in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing.

Could the cache owner please place a note on the cache page so that other cachers and I can see what your intentions are.

If you no longer wish to maintain the cache then the listing should be archived.

Please DO NOT send an email about this cache in case I do not receive it. Posting a reviewer note will ensure your cache does not get archived in error.

Please note that the guidelines say that if a cache is archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ staff for lack of maintenance then it will not be unarchived. Here is the link to the relevant part of the guidelines Ownership after publication.

Regards

Geocache Description:

Pedlars End Pump House

This brick structure housed the village pump for the cottages in Pedlars End.  It was not possible to use the pump without priming it, by pouring a quart jam jar of water into the top.  Due to wear on the leather washer, the priming water slowly leaked away. So a jam jar was kept in the pump house to be left full when the villager had filled his/her buckets, so the next person could draw their water.  Woe betides anyone who failed to leave a full jam-jar!

This pump house was renovated around 1970 but sadly the lead pump was stolen sometime in the 1980's, presumably for scrap.  The Parish Council renovated the pump house again in 2014.

The cache you are looking for is a small cylinder containing a log book but NO PEN, so please bring your own.  This is on a road.  It can get busy near school times.
