Spanish for "chains", Cardenas was named after a workman on the AT & SF Railroad when it was constructed through this area in the very early 1900s. Actually, Cardenas is a switch on the railroad near the cemetery.
Cardenas is even mentioned in the historical New Mexico Place Names books by Pearce and also by Julyan.
According to the USGS, USFS and BLM maps, the Cardenas Cemetery is located along the railway siding mentioned above.
This offset cache is placed here as a memorial to those unknown burials at this Cardenas Cemetery. We solicite your support as a volunteer cacher to place a cache at or near a cemetery of your choice.
