funbeach: Unfortunately, the owner of the nearby establishment no longer wants the geocache in her parking lot. I will look into relocating the cache nearby.

Geocache Description:

One of the early modes of transportation on the Long Beach Peninsula began as a hauler who used horse-drawn wagons on the beach, and eventually became a narrow-gauge railroad. Officially named the IR&N Railroad -- the only railroad that ran with the tides -- operated on the Long Beach Peninsula from 1889-1930. Affectionately known as the Clamshell Railroad, the line hauled vacationers to the grand hotels of the day “up the beach,” and hauled seafood, cranberries and lumber down to awaiting ships.

The cache is placed at the north end of the Clamshell's route, where in early days a water tower, turntable and roundhouse at Nahcotta were used to turn the train around for its return journey down the Peninsula. The cache has been placed with permission from the business owner, who proudly displays a mural depicting the Clamshell heritage. Please be respectful of the business and its customers.
