Geocache Description:

This is a series of caches at or nearby sites that my geodog, Redtail, visited as a certified therapy dog.  Redtail is my golden retriever who loves to geocache with me.  He’s got a nose for a cache and knows when to sit and stay while I sign the log.  He is exceptionally sweet and kind.  When he was a puppy Mr. Redtail2000 and I promised that we would get him certified as a therapy dog.  Admittedly, he had to take Canine Good Citizenship twice because during the final exam he jumped on the instructor… but only because he loved her so much.  Those goldens sure do love to be a puppy!  Finally at the mature age of eight, he’s made the ranks as a therapy dog certified by the Southwest Canine Corps of Volunteers.  Now I get to share with you some of the more poignant events that occurred during our visits.  Please always be mindful and respectful of your surroundings when caching at these sites.

Redtail and I always enjoy our visits at Presbyterian Kaseman because it has a small town feel about it compared to the much larger hospital downtown ABQ.  They’ve even offered their valet service in the summer when the asphalt just gets so darn hot for our dogs’ paws.  I’ve got  a friend who works here as an Occupational Therapist who was formerly a certified Signed Language Interpreter which brings it home as well.  Fortunately for our mutual American Sign Language/Interpreter Preparation Program most amazing UNM professor, Dr. Phyllis Wilcox, she was able to secure her OT services with a fluent signer and did not need an interpreter while there on an extended stay.  Even though her room was on a no contact order, which means that the dogs cannot go into her room to visit and that she could only have visitors in the room with the no contact gown, gloves, etc., and even though she doesn’t remember me visiting her, I am still dedicating this geocache to her because sometimes it’s not always what we remember but we have in the moment that is most truly a blessing.  This one’s for you Phyllis, ILY
