Geocache Description:

The geocache is a family friendly 1.2L clip-lock container in a camo bag, hidden in Hamble Common, with the kind permission of the Countryside Service of Eastleigh Borough Council. There are swaps, a logbook with pencil, and plenty of room for Travel Bugs. Wellies will be needed in wet weather.

Venue:-
There are seats in the venue, and two picnic areas with tables at Hamble Quay a short walk to the north. The venue is child/dog friendly, but some entrances might need buggies etc to be lifted, wear wellies in wet weather. The paths are a mixture of hard gravel, cut/uncut grass, and woodland. The venue is level but has lots of exposed tree roots in the woods, take care around the mud flats which also form lakes at high tide, some paths, ground, and bridges can be under water.

Geocache:-
The geocache is hidden at a prickly location, not far from Hamble Point. There are some seats with good views close by, but hold onto your hat if it is windy. Looking towards the water, Hamble point is to your left, along with boats entering and exiting the Hamble estuary, the southern tip of Warsash on the far side, and the Solent and Isle of Wight a bit further to the right. To your right is the BP oil refinery with its pipeline, and Southampton Water going up past Royal Victoria Country Park, Weston Shore, and up to Southampton Docks. On the far bank are Calshot, the Fawley oil refinery, Hythe, and lots of big cranes. There should be plenty of activity to watch here, but be careful of the orginal coastal path, which has taken quite a battering, hence the nice new path near the fence.

This cache is proving to be an interesting test of geocaching psychology. Few people like gorse, yet most people on finding it, have a urge to thrust their hands arms and legs into it, and repeatedly suffer the torturous effects of the prickles!! I am not really that sadistic, so please stand back and think about where the cache might be hidden, before diving in. You should be able to retrieve and hide the cache unscathed, but if in doubt use a pokey stick, but be gentle. NO bashing the gorse into submission!!
