When an enemy was caught, they were taken to a prisoner of war camp (POW). Often the prisoners had very little contact with the outside world. They were allowed to send very few letters and when they did, they were often read by their captors, so there was no telling of secrets. This cache - the third in the Fourways series - was inspired by a letter that managed to get out and arrive at Mandy's postbox.

Dear Mandy I am alive and in good health. Escape from spitfire was scary. Planned to celebrate my birthday, night after we were captured. September in the garden is pretty and I will miss the time we used to spend there. Send my regards to Brooklyn, ma, pa, N.D Jones and my other mates at the club, local. Money I owe them I will have to pay back later Love Jamie
