Geocache Description:

Number 7 of 16.  See Dawdling Dane 1

Pencil or pen required.

Chilbolton Observatory is a 76 hectare site surrounded by arable land in rural Hampshire. During the second world war it was an airfield. In the 1960s it was chosen to be the site of the pioneering 25m antenna due to its clear view of the horizon and its relative freedom from sources of radio interference. In addition to this antenna it is now home to an extensive range of sensitive meteorological equipment.

Track can become muddy in very wet weather. 16 caches 3 miles plus trip back to car. There is also a possible church micro at Longstock.

1 to 7 on track

8 and 9 on very quiet road

Continue down the road until you come to the church on the corner.

There is a watering hole just to your left.

But you need to turn right at the church and walk along the road for approximately 280 yards.

Just after the village hall turn right up the steep track for number 10.

Head on up for number 11 – be careful, there were cows in the field.

At number 12 you come out of the field and walk along a track again.

At number 16

Safe way back - we turned around and walked back to number 12 and along the other track to join the original track you walked. Continue up the hill back to car parking. 4.20 miles.

Quick way back – continue to end of track until you reach the road and turn right. Be careful as traffic does move very fast
