Signpost to the archeological site, Lokvišća Cove, Jadranovo

The cove is located on the western side of the forest-covered peninsula of Havišće, which is less than 500 m away from the island of Krk. In the cove, just a few metres from the sea, you will find the remnants of the Roman complex from the period of Late Antiquity, under which the archaeologists found traces of a somewhat older settlement with a pier (the 3rd – 1st century BC). Some historians connect this location with the Battle of Krk, which supposedly took place in the channel between the island of Krk and the mainland in the 49th year BC. This battle was one of the episodes of the Second Roman Civil War between the legions of Gaius Julius Caesar and Gnaeus Pompey who fought for supremacy in the Roman Republic. This complex from the Late Antiquity, built during the 4th century AD, was subject to archaeological research and has been preserved. Today, it shows the visitors a ground-plan layout of living and commercial premises on the area of about 160 square metres. The building (23 metres long) was built for the stay of a small military crew that secured the sailing through the sea canal between the Havišće peninsula and the island of Krk. This complex was also functioning in the 6th century. In the Middle Ages, a cottage was built over the ruins; it served as a warehouse and shelter. It was demolished at the beginning of the 17th century during the Venetian war with the Uskoks.

Over the Lokvišće Cove, on the Čelo hill, there are remnants of a prehistoric hillfort settlement from the Bronze Age which was inhabited during the second millenium BC. A peculiarity of this cove is healing sea mud which will surely be relaxing for those tired of walking.

Access: If you take the promenade from the fishermen's cottage, following the signposts and hiking markers, in about 15 minutes (after about 1 km), you will arrive to this location. Finding this GeoKissing spot is a bit more demanding than in the case of the previous one, but it will be rewarding for all the adventurers willing to take a walk along the path that smells like the sea and spruce. The path leads to the archaeological site, and along the cove, which might be attractive to adventurous swimmers, all the way to the lighthouse atop the cape. Make sure to take a bottle of water with you.

Kada skupite sve naljepnice u kartolini, osvojili ste nagradu koju možete pokupiti na jednoj od ove tri lokacije: Gradska galerija - Frankopanska 6; Gradska knjižnica - Strossmayerovo šetalište 22. i muzej Grada - Preradovićeva 1. Crikvenica.
