This country owes a great debt to Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the CCC Camps he created.
The CCC camps not only put men to work. but they helped to create roads, buildings and the infrastructure of our National Forests.
I have traveled the George Washington and Jefferson National forests in my Jeep. Many times I will come upon a Stacked stone wall, or fountain or pillar with a memorial stone relating to which CCC came and built that particular road or area. These are almost all abandoned, well of the beaten tracks and slowly fading out of memory. Take time to stop and reflect on how much enriched our lives are to have these roads to easily access the natural beauty of the forests. This cache is at a small parking area in Alpena gap.
