Salt mine in St. Lawrence
By 1871, the salt mine in St. Lawrence operated the rock salt by galleries of 10 to 15 m in width and 4.50 m in height. The annual extraction was 350,000 quintals used in industry and agriculture. The wells, the galleries and the mine were illuminated to electricity for 1917. This saline produced refined salt by evaporation. It was a saline important since it occupied the fifth place of the Salines Hold. It ceased its production during the First World War, between 1914 and 1917. On the other hand, its activities were very important during the second war due to the closure of the Salines mosellanes. At that time, it employed up to 200 saliniers or minors. These men were "workers-peasants", that is to say that, their work day is over to the saline, they cultivated gardens and chenevieres. Sometimes, they came from the surrounding villages, and this, whatever the time in winter. Victim, like so many others,to industrial restructuring, this saline ceased its activities in 1965.
