Five years ago I held an event celebrating the ten year anniversary of the first cache placed in Massachusetts: GC74 - AKA First Mass. I enjoyed that event and hikes so much I decided to host another morning hike in 2011, an evening hike in 2012, a morning hike in 2013 and an evening hike in 2014. This year the event will have both a morning and an evening portion to celebrate the fifteen years. You only need to attend one part to log the event.

Time: 6:15 am - 7:15 am and 5:45 pm to 6:45 pm
Rain or Shine
On October 1, 2000 Jeremy Gilbert placed the first “GPS Cache/Stash in MA state”. On Oct 2 the cache was found by a cacher named intuition. Fifteen years later we have about 14,000 caches spread from the farthest western edge of the state all the way to the capes and the islands. This event will celebrate all of those caches by recognizing this grandfather of all of them in the state: GC74 - AKA First Mass
The Basic Plan:
The morning:
An early morning event up on the mountain near First Mass to see the sunrise and celebrate geocaching in Massachusetts. The event will last from 6:15 am to 7:15 am with a post event stop for breakfast.
The evening:
An early evening event up on the mountain near First Mass to see the sunset and celebrate geocaching in Massachusetts. The event will last from 5:45 pm to 6:45 pm with a post event stop for food and merriment.
The Morning Schedule:
6:00 Optional - Gather at the parking coordinates (N 42° 27.880 W 071°09.160)
6:15 Event officially begins
6:30 Congregate at the sunrise coordinates and swap TBs and stories (N 42° 27.559 W 071° 09.407)
6:41 Observe sunrise
6:45 Congregate near First Mass and swap UNACTIVATED GEOCOINS
7:15 Event officially ends
7:30 Head off to parts unknown or to Bickfords for breakfast
8:00 Post event breakfast at Bicks

5:30 Optional - Gather at the parking coordinates (N 42° 27.865 W 071°09.160)
5:45 The event officially begins
6:00 Congregate near First Mass and swap UNACTIVATED GEOCOINS and stories
6:20 Head over to the sunset coordinates (N 42° 27.711 W 071° 09.520)
6:27 Observe sunset
6:45 Event officially ends
7:00 Head off to parts unknown or to Applebees for merriment
7:30 Post-event gathering at The Bees for merriment

NOTE: These post-event gatherings are not an official part of the event so just attending one of those does not allow you to post an Attended log.
Notes:
1. The key to logging this event will be signing the event logbook which will be available up on the mountain during the event.
2. If for some reason you are not in shape to make the hike up the mountain, for example you are recovering from knee surgery, I will allow you to log the cache if you make it to the parking area for the event and sign the logbook.
