This cache is placed in the Riserva Naturale del Monte Cofano.
Grotta Mangiapane, also called Grotta Scurati, is located near the hamlet of Scurati at an altitude of 60 meters above sea level. It is about 70 meters high and 50 metres deep. It had been inhabited since the Paleolithic period. The first studies were conducted by the Marquis Guido Dalla Rosa in 1870 and by Raimond Vaufrey in 1925. Here were found many prehistoric remains such as animals’teeth and bones, worked flints, paintings on the rock which are now kept at the Pepoli Museum in Trapani, at the Prehistory Museum of the Tower of Ligny and at the Ethno-anthropological Museum in Paris. The cave wad inhabited until the early ‘50s by the Mangiapane family. Today it is the natural home of the crib and the Living Museum during the Christmas season.

La Grotta Mangiapane, detta anche Grotta di Scurati, sorge in prossimità della frazione di Scurati. E’ posta ad un’altitudine di 60 metri sopra il livello del mare, è alta circa 70 metri e profonda 50. Fu abitata dall’uomo sin dal Paleolitico. I primi studi sono stati condotti dal marchese Guido Dalla Rosa nel 1870 e da Raimond Vaufrey nel 1925. Tra i numerosi reperti preistorici, sono stati ritrovati denti e ossa di animali, selci lavorate, pitture rupestri tuttora conservati presso il museo Pepoli di Trapani, il museo della Preistoria della Torre di Ligny e il museo Etno-antropologico di Parigi. Abitata fino ai primi anni ’50 dalla famiglia Mangiapane, oggi la grotta è la sede naturale del Presepe e del Museo Vivente che si svolge nel periodo natalizio.
