Geocache Description:

This cache is placed in the Riserva Naturale del Monte Cofano.
This Tower was part of the defensive towers system with the aim to sight the Saracens. The tower was built between 1556 and 1560. It has a square four-pointed star plant and concave walls. These elements make it a unique plant in Sicily. The ground floor has a unique squarred room with a barrel vault. On the floor there is the opening of a cistern carved into the rock. A staircase on the left of the entrance takes you to the upper level. Through a steep ladder you can reach a trap door on the barrel vault, and through it you go on the coverage plan. The Tower was restaured thanks to European Union funds and it was reopened in 2010. It can be visited every day from 9:30 to 15:00. You can watch an interesting video about Monte Cofano Reserve.

Notice: you need to pay a ticket for the access to Monte Cofano Reserve: 2€ full ticket, 1€ reduced ticket (groups), free ticket (children under 10 years).
